| Welcome to the website www.philanthropie.lu This website, initiated by Banque de Luxembourg, has been designed to provide information on the symposium and charitable giving in Luxembourg. |
Fondation de Luxembourg was launched on 2 January 2009, just 8 months after the "Seizing the opportunity for philanthropy in Luxembourg" symposium organised by Banque de Luxembourg.
Located at 12, rue Erasme, Luxembourg-Kirchberg, Fondation de Luxembourg is part-funded by the Luxembourg government, part-funded by the Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte with an initial capital of €5 million.
Like its counterparts Fondation de France and the King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium, Fondation de Luxembourg's mission is, on one side, to assist private clients and companies interested in donating to non-profit organizations and, one the other side, to act as an umbrella foundation in order to structure the philanthropic engagement of people lacking the necessary funds to launch their own non-profit association or foundation.
Fondation de Luxembourg, headed by Tonika Hirdman, has 23 foundations under its aegis as of August 31st, 2011. These foundations support projects in various areas such as Health & Research, Poverty & Social cohesion, Culture & Diversity, Biodiversity & Climate change and Universal education.
