Publication of the first overview of the charity sector in Luxembourg - a dynamic sector facing a range of challenges

The Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, whose objective is to support organisations working in the philanthropy domain, has commissioned a study from the Luxembourg-based research centre CEPS / INSTEAD* focusing on the charity sector in Luxembourg.

The first of its kind, the study provides an overview of the country's philanthropic activities and brings to light:

  • The dynamism of the sector, in terms of growth in the number of charities, stakeholders, legislative changes and discussions and debates, and
  • The sector’s diversity in terms of variety of fields involved, size of charities and resources used to meet an objective.

The study has also identified needs that are not being met or that are not sufficiently taken care of - around 40% of charities stated that they were unable to meet the needs of their beneficiaries.

Needs not being met include areas such as assistance and support for specific segments of the population, including young people with behavioural problems, disabled people (appropriate infrastructure for dealing with these members of society) and more specifically, people with multiple problems (physical and mental handicap, or addiction and psychological disorders).
